We are a non-profit and volunteer-based organization working in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area of Central Virginia.
Our mission is to prevent and reduce obesity and improve health behaviors in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area by providing education, developing policy, and increasing access to both healthy food and physical activity.
Our vision for the Charlottesville-Albemarle area is a supportive community that fosters healthy weight and overall fitness for all.
Who we are
We are volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. We are parents, students, doctors, health workers, teachers, school nutritionists and administrators, and program directors from nonprofits, community agencies and Parks & Recreation departments.
We have been working on finding community solutions to the prevalence of obesity and overweight since we were founded as the Childhood Obesity Task Force in 1999.
Where we work
Our community coalition is focused on the Thomas Jefferson Area planning district of Central Virginia, which includes the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Louisa and Nelson.
